Equipment

  • A vessel large enough to hold at least two cups of liquid.

Ingredients

Basic Healthy Honey Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup Warm water No warmer than 110°F (43°C).
  • 1 cup Pourable honey, preferably raw See note of caution in "Recipe Notes" below.

Additional Infusions for Healthy Honey Simple Syrup (optional)

  • 1/4 cup Fresh ginger, grated Fresh turmeric, also grated, may be substituted
  • 1/4 cup Fresh mint Other herbs may be substituted.
  • 1 Lemon, zest only Other citrus may be substituted.

Instructions

  • Add warm water to a bowl or large measuring cup.
  • Pour honey into the water and stir well until completely dissolved.
  • Add additional infusions to honey and water. You may use individual amounts such as 1/4 cup of grated ginger (as demonstrated in the video) or any combination of herbs and spices up to 1/4 cup. Stir well.
  • Cover honey and water mixture and refrigerate for 24 hours.
  • After 24 hours, strain out the infusions and decant the honey simple syrup into a jar with a lid and refrigerate. When refrigerated, this honey simple syrup will stay fresh for 1 month.
