In today’s vodcast, I chat about why I like to search out old cookbooks as a source for truly traditional recipes. In many of the older cookbooks, you’ll find the types of foods that our moms and grandmothers used to make where they wasted nothing, and they even put beef drippings to good use!
These conversational vodcasts are available to the Kitchen Pioneers who have joined my YouTube membership community—The Traditional Foods Kitchen Academy.
Something Old…Something New!
As you’ve heard me mention in previous member vodcasts, I love old cookbooks, and I have an extensive collection. In today’s member vodcast, I share some of my favorite older cookbooks with you.
These old cookbooks inspired me to write my new book, The Modern Pioneer Cookbook. I have tried to capture all that is wonderful about old cookbooks in my cookbook. I share how to make the most of the food you bring into your kitchen so that nothing goes to waste. But it’s not just about creating a no-waste kitchen.
Something that I love about old cookbooks and share in my cookbook is that we work toward preparing food for maximum nutritional absorption as modern pioneers in the kitchen. Ensuring we squeeze out every last bit of our food’s vitamins, minerals, and micronutrients is crucial to creating robust health for us and the loved ones we are feeding, including our family and friends.
Making the Most of Our Food
When we make the most of our food by properly preparing it and sitting down to enjoy a meal without the distractions of cell phones, the computer, or the TV, we not only lower our stress, we maximize our digestion. And when it comes to nutrient-dense foods and nutrient-rich foods, maximizing digestion should always be at the forefront of our minds.
So next time you are ready to prepare a meal, make it a traditional meal. If you have some tried and true old recipes tucked away in the recesses of your memory, dust them off and start cooking. But if you need a bit of inspiration, pull out an old cookbook. (Or a new one: The Modern Pioneer Cookbook! 😊)
