After our Thanksgiving meal, my husband Ted and I enjoyed a little time at home resting and relaxing and then playing a delightful board game we recently discovered called Fromage. It’s a fun and lighthearted game that had us laughing and strategizing. The cozy atmosphere of our kitchen table and a game filled with friendly competition made for the perfect end to a beautiful day.

What is the Fromage Board Game?

Fromage is a delightful board game that whisks you away to early 20th-century France, where you step into the shoes of an artisanal cheesemaker. The game features a unique rotating board that simulates the aging process of cheese, adding a strategic twist as to where you place your game pieces. Ted was a dairy farmer, and I was a milkmaid.

Technically, players would simultaneously place their workers on the board to craft various cheeses and gather resources, all while adapting to the ever-changing board that would rotate. Instead, Ted and I took turns to help each other since we were learning to play the game for the first time. (And…I always appreciate help from Ted, who is a master at playing board games!)

The goal of Fromage is to efficiently manage your creamery. This involves making a variety of cheeses from soft cheese, aged cheese, and blue cheese…some with fruits and jams (my favorites to make in the game!), fulfilling orders, and upgrading your facilities with farm buildings and dairy animals.

Bring Fromage to Your Gaming Table

With its charming theme and the cutest game pieces, Fromage offers a rich experience that appeals to casual players like me and seasoned board game enthusiasts like Ted. It’s easy to learn and moves along quickly, making it the perfect game for a holiday evening, especially after a big meal! 😉

We both love Fromage and encourage you to bring this exceptionally fun board game to your gaming table. One to four players can play this game. (The game also has a solo mode if you’d like to take on the automated “corporation” making cheese and competing with your artisan traditions to dominate the French market for cheeses.)

Note: There are two versions of the game: Regular and Limited Edition. The extra beautiful playing bits you see in the pictures above, such as the wooden farm animals, are part of the Limited Edition, but either version gives you the full gameplay and fun.
