Favorite Easter Baking Traditions Recipes
My Favorite Easter Baking Traditions video remasters and brings together my Hot Cross Buns and Italian Easter Bread Recipes in a single video. You can get the recipes for both of these dishes from their original recipe posts:
How to Make Hot Cross Buns
When I was growing up, Hot Cross Buns were a delightful treat to enjoy after dinner on Good Friday. We had fasted all day, but after our fish dinner, my mom treated us to the most delicious Hot Cross Buns.
These buns weren’t plain. Instead, my mom made them using her sourdough starter, orange zest, and a variety of flavorful spices. Once they were out of the oven, my mom slathered the Hot Cross Buns with a glaze made from orange juice and honey and then made a sweet sugar cross on top of each bun. Delicious!
You can also make these Hot Cross Buns a Good Friday tradition, and if you’ve never tried a sourdough starter before, I share a simple recipe for how to make my foolproof sourdough starter. Once you try your first sourdough recipe, you will be baking an assortment of sourdough breads and treats! And if you have any questions along the way, be sure to check out my complete guide to sourdough.
How to Make an Italian Easter Bread
Every Easter when I was growing up, my mom made an Italian Easter Bread—or as it was called in our home, Pane di Pasqua. I loved helping her with this recipe because it also involved coloring eggs!
This bread is a delightful addition to any Easter Sunday dinner table, and it’s quite easy to make. Even though it looks like a braid, you are actually only twisting two pieces of dough together.
Once you twist the dough together, pinch the ends and make a circle. Now, the fun part comes in. You nestle the colored eggs into the dough, generously dust the dough with colorful sprinkles, and then put it into the oven. Before you know it, you’ll be treated to a slightly sweet, tender bread—and hard-cooked eggs!
