Today, I’m excited to share my Mary’s Nest 2024 channel update video with you. I’ll give you a tour of what I have planned for my Mary’s Nest YouTube channel and website, along with some news and a terrific conference I’ll be speaking at this summer.
As I mentioned in previous newsletters, I wasn’t able to launch my 2024 kickoff video earlier this month due to family concerns. I hope you’ll enjoy today’s video as I discuss what we’ve covered and what we will cover in future recipe videos.
I’m excited about this year, and I’m sure you will be too!

Focus on Traditional Recipes
As I talk about in my kickoff video, here are a few of the recipe features I have planned for this year:
- More traditional, nutrient-dense recipes and many real old-world favorites.
- Larger food pictures to help guide you through the recipe.
I’ll show you how to prepare each recipe to ensure maximum nutrient absorption—so we can be our best selves and as healthy as we can be!
And with each recipe, I’ll give you multiple ways to learn about what you’re making:
- Video – I’ll show you how to make the recipe in my cozy kitchen.
- Recipe – You can print it out and include it in your kitchen journal.
- Blog Post – Contains additional information that complements the video and recipe.
Launching Videos on Thursdays
I’m also going to launch my videos on Thursdays, instead of Saturdays, to give you more time to get the ingredients so you can make the recipe over the weekend when many of my sweet friends have additional time to spend in their traditional foods kitchen.
UPDATE: I will keep my old video thumbnail style and my Saturday release date since I received so many more emails and comments asking me to keep everything the same after this video was released.
Kitchen Journal
Your Kitchen Journal is an essential tool in your traditional foods kitchen. (I’ve talked about how to make your kitchen journal in a previous video.)
You can write about your recipe’s successes and challenges, such as the location and temperature of ferments that didn’t do so well. You can also print out recipes from around the web and include them in your journal as a welcome alternative to always looking for recipes and information on your computer, especially if those resources are no longer available on the web.
If you’re using The Modern Pioneer Cookbook Curriculum to help teach your children, grandchildren, or students in grades K-12 lifelong cooking skills, kitchen journals are the first step on their traditional foods journey. Jamie O’Hara talks about how she created kitchen journals with her children as part of the first The Modern Pioneer Cookbook Curriculum Lesson Experience.
If you already have a kitchen journal, be sure to look through the free downloads on my website, find the ones you like, and print them out to include in your journal.
The Modern Pioneer Cookbook
UPDATE: Thank you so much for helping my book, The Modern Pioneer Cookbook, become a bestseller. Penguin Random House sold out of my initial book printing! They ordered a second printing that’s already showing up on bookstore shelves.
If you’ve made the resolution to transform your processed foods kitchen into a traditional foods kitchen, be sure to get my bestselling book, The Modern Pioneer Cookbook. You’ll get detailed recipes for how to make traditional foods, including bone broth, cultured dairy, ferments, sourdough, and more. Discover for yourself how you can use simple ingredients and traditional techniques to cook the modern pioneer way.
If you already have my book, please leave me a book review where you bought your book or on GoodReads. Booksellers will use your five-star reviews to recommend my cookbook to others, which will help them learn about traditional foods and techniques for their home kitchens. Thanks so much!
NEW: Target is carrying my cookbook at many of their stores. If you shop in person at Target, you can pick up a copy of my book at 30% off the list price. Plus, if you have a Target RedCard, you may be able to save an additional 5% off your entire purchase.
(Target Tip: To save you from having to travel from store to store, search for my book on target.com and then click on the “Check for other stores” link to see the stores that have my book in stock.)
Other Books I’m Reading
Here are two of the books that I mention in my 2024 kickoff video:
The Modern Homesteading Conference
I’m also excited to share with you that I will be speaking at the 2024 Modern Homesteading Conference this summer. I hope you’ll be able to attend the conference so that I can meet you in person and give you a big hug!
