Using Your Golden Milk Spice Mix
As I show you in my recipe video, making a Golden Milk Spice Mix is easy and involves little more than adding some spices to a clean jar and storing the jar in your pantry. When you are ready to make Golden Milk (also called Turmeric Milk), all you do is add a bit of the spice mix from your jar to a saucepan filled with milk, bring it up to a simmer, whisk, and serve.
Golden Milk is delicious and may help lessen symptoms of a cold or flu because of the ingredients in the spice mix. You can sip it as is, or if you prefer, you can add a bit of sweetener.
If you want to sweeten your Golden Milk, I highly recommend choosing a whole natural sweetener instead of processed white sugar with all the nutrients removed. You can learn more about all your choices for whole sweeteners in my Essential Sugars for Your Prepper Pantry video.

What Are the Benefits of Turmeric?
Turmeric is the main ingredient for Golden Milk. As with many spices, turmeric is rich in numerous properties, including phytonutrients, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial properties.
Now keep in mind, I am not a medical professional, but scientists have studied turmeric extensively. They have found that it can be quite helpful in easing the symptoms of various ailments. You can learn more about Turmeric in the Herbal Medicine: Biomolecular and Clinical Aspects book that’s available as part of the National Institutes of Health’s National Library of Medicine.
What Are the Benefits of Combining Turmeric and Black Pepper?
To make your Golden Milk Spice Mix, you’ll use turmeric, black pepper, and a few other select ingredients. This mixture provides important health benefits, especially when the properties of two of those ingredients combine.
The yellow pigment curcumin is an integral part of turmeric. An article from the National Institutes of Health National Library of Medicine has shown that combining curcumin with piperine, which is an alkaloid in black pepper, helps to:
- Relieve various respiratory conditions.
- Manage oxidative and inflammatory conditions.
- Reduce metabolic syndrome by improving insulin sensitivity.
- Relieve arthritis, anxiety, and hyperlipidemia.
- Manage exercise-induced inflammation and muscle soreness.
Additionally, at a relatively low dose, the combination of curcumin and piperine provides health benefits for people that do not have diagnosed health conditions.

Hi Mary
Love your website and your no nonsense approach to help us !
Im asking about the Turmeric milk, the type is what im curious about, is it just plain ground turmeric as I also see Ground Turmeric Root being sold. Curious which one you use or if there is even a difference.
What I will say is I have tried this and certainly delicious.
Hi Judy,
Thanks for your comment and kind words.
My understanding is that ground turmeric is the dried turmeric root, so the two should be similar to each other. It may be a marketing distinction.
I’m glad that you enjoyed it!
Love and God bless,
Mary
