I’m thrilled to share it with you today, along with my thanks and recommendations in case you want to start a YouTube channel.

Reaching Over 1 Million Subscribers
My Mary’s Nest YouTube channel reached over 1 million subscribers in December 2023, and now I’m almost at 1.02 million and counting. This means more than 1 million people are interested in making traditional recipes and creating their own traditional foods kitchen.

I started my Mary’s Nest YouTube channel in July 2018, and I want to thank YOU—my sweet friend—for your support over these last five and a half years. You’ve subscribed to my channel, watched my videos, and made my recipes for your family and friends.
When Did You Become a Mary’s Nest YouTube Subscriber?
Do you remember when you became a subscriber and sweet friend? Perhaps you were new to traditional foods and discovered my YouTube channel while searching for how to make bone broth or sourdough bread. Or you may have found me after you rekindled your interest in making the nutrient-dense foods your parents or grandparents made when you were growing up.
Did you know the editor of my bestselling book, The Modern Pioneer Cookbook, found me on YouTube when he was searching for how to make sauerkraut? (And my thanks to all of you who have already purchased my cookbook. Penguin Random House recently ordered a second printing of my book!)
So, no matter how you found my YouTube channel, thank you so much for being a subscriber and a sweet friend. You helped me get over 1 million subscribers, and you’ve helped spread the good news about traditional foods around the world!
Gold Creator Award
YouTube provides its creators with awards when their channel reaches select subscriber milestones:
- 100,000 subscribers – Silver Creator Award
- 1,000,000 subscribers – Gold Creator Award
- 10,000,000 subscribers – Diamond Creator Award
These awards are also known as Play Button Awards, and thanks to you, I achieved my Silver Creator Award in May 2020, less than two years from when I first started my Mary’s Nest YouTube channel.
In December 2023, my YouTube channel reached 1 million subscribers to achieve the Gold Creator Award. According to the “20 Creator Economy Statistics That Will Blow You Away in 2023” article, there were 113.9 million YouTube channels in 2022, and only 35,000 of those YouTube channels achieved over 1 million subscribers in 2023. That means that less than .03% of all YouTube channels have over a million subscribers. Thank you for helping me and my channel be part of this select group of YouTube creators!
Not only have you helped me get over 1 million subscribers, but you’ve also logged more than 58 million views on my over 600 videos!
When will I reach 10 million subscribers to get the Diamond Creator Award? I’m not sure, but I know it’ll be thanks to you bringing me on your journey to create a traditional foods kitchen!
Starting a YouTube Channel
If you’re interested in starting your own YouTube channel to help share your knowledge and encourage others, it’s never too late to start. Yes. There may be over 100 million YouTube channels, but there are always YouTube users who are looking for a creator to connect with. If you have a good niche and stick with it, your channel will grow over time, and you’ll have a wonderful community of online friends.
I want to give a big thanks to Sean Cannell and his ThinkMedia team for helping me learn how to get started with YouTube. I took their Video Ranking Academy course even before I filmed my first video so I could learn the best approaches to creating content, filming videos, making thumbnails, and more.
