My Recipe Choices for St. Patrick’s Day in 2024

I’m going to make a Traditional Corned Beef and Cabbage recipe for St. Patrick’s Day this year, and I picked out my ingredients this week:

  • Bay Leaves and Black Peppercorns
  • Carrots
  • Corned Beef
  • Green Cabbage
  • Thin Skinned Potatoes
  • Yellow Onions

I already had my bay leaves and black peppercorns in my pantry. I also didn’t need to get yellow onions since I bought some extra in preparation for making my French Onion Soup recipe.

Selecting the Best Corned Beef

When you select your corned beef, remember to get one that says “flat cut.” This type of corned beef will cook evenly and slice beautifully.

And don’t forget, no matter how you cook your Corned Beef, when you go to slice it, be sure to cut “against the grain” to get those beautiful, picture-perfect slices. (I show you how to do this in my Instant Pot Corned Beef and Cabbage recipe.)

Completing Your St. Patrick’s Day Meal

Don’t forget the condiments. My family enjoys a variety of mustards with their corned beef. My son Ben and I like grainy mustards, while my husband Ted prefers regular yellow mustard the best.

In addition to your main dish, don’t forget to make Irish Soda bread as an accompaniment and Traditional Irish Apple Cake for a scrumptious dessert.

I hope you’ll find many tasty recipes to make your St. Patrick’s Day special this year! 😊☘️
