Homemade Poultry Seasoning Recipe
Have you seen Bell’s Poultry Seasoning before? It comes in a little yellow box with a turkey on the front. This is one of my all-time favorite seasonings, especially for stuffing or dressing.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to find it at my grocery store lately, so I decided to make a homemade version. And it came out great! (I actually think my blend is a little better. 😉) You will love it with your turkey or in your stuffing or dressing!
Two Ways to Make Your Thanksgiving Turkey
If you are planning for a smaller Thanksgiving dinner, you can cook a small turkey in the oven or a turkey breast in your Instant Pot. However, instead of just one small turkey, why not two? Cooking two turkeys in your oven gives you a smaller turkey to enjoy, if you want to eat just one during dinner, but having another turkey for later also gives you more meat and bones for future meals and for making turkey bone broth.
How to Make Turkey Bone Broth
You can make bone broth with your leftover turkey bones using your Instant Pot or slow cooker. And if you want to make turkey bone broth on your stovetop, you can follow the same instructions as making chicken bone broth on the stovetop.

Thank you for this recipe. Good poultry seasoning is hard to find around here and I need it for more than stuffing! Dad’s white (Cornell based) barbeque sauce takes a lot of it. And while you can substitute sage, it just doesn’t taste the same.
Hi Tammy,
Thanks for your kind comment. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving! ๐
Love and God bless,
Mary
Hi Mary,
Thank you so much for this recipe! I haven’t seen Bell’s since I moved to California 20 years ago and had forgotten about it.
I made this last year and it has been sealed tightly in a Mason jar, do you think it’s still good? It still smells wonderful!
thanks for sharing so much information and your wonderful recipes!
Happy Thanksgiving
Hi Tina,
If kept dry, your poultry mix should last a year, although the flavor intensity may start to wane. Your nose is a good indicator. If you smelled anything off, I would discard the mix and start fresh. But if it smells great, as you described, you can definitely go ahead and use it.
Thanks for your kind comment. I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving too!
Love and God bless,
Mary
The ingredients sound like the ones I used to make old fashioned vegetable soup 50+ years ago when newlyweds! Canโt wait to try it. Thank you.
Hi Mary,
Thanks for your kind comment. I hope you’ll enjoy the seasoning for this Thanksgiving or whenever you love reminiscing! ๐
